Most women do not require hormonal blood tests to diagnose menopause , however in some cases blood tests are required to confirm a diagnosis of Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI - menopause under age 40) or Early menopause (age 40-45).
A blood test for serum oestradiol can be checked if there is poor response to treatment.
If you are taking testosterone replacement you will need regular blood tests to monitor levels.
Occasionally checking full blood count and serum iron levels if you have heavy periods, thyroid function tests, cholesterol, diabetes and Vitamin D levels may be advised.
If an ultrasound scan is required for investigating bleeding problems on HRT or contraceptives , heavy periods or Polycystic ovarian disease these can be arranged via the NHS or privately (at additional costs).
Blood tests can be arranged via your GP on the NHS or privately with
Nationwide or
Medichecks. They have several centres nationwide and they can directly arrange with you to do the blood tests.
